New African women’s football champions, the Super Falcons, arrived in Nigeria on Monday and are expected to spend the day in Lagos before departing for Abuja on Tuesday.

The Falcons on arrival, were lodged at the Eko Hotels, Vicotria Island.

Edwin Okon’s team who were hosted to a victory dinner before leaving Namibia, are expected to tour Nigeria’s commercial capital, Lagos with the trophy – an open bus parade – before leaving for Abuja for a reception by Nigeria’s President, Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday after the Federal Executive Council’s meeting at the Aso Rock .

The victory in Namibia now means Nigeria are African champions in both men and women’s football, as the Super Eagles are the reigning African champions having won the last edition of the Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa in 2013, but are presently struggling to qualify for the 2015 edition.

The fate of the Falcons who are expected to represent Africa alongside Cameroun and Cote d’ Ivoire at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada is uncertain as a FIFA ban is looming following the court cases that has characterised Nigerian football.

Chris Giwa has again taken the issue of his denied mandate to the Jos High Court insisting that he won the Nigeria Football Federation ‘election’ of August 26 2014.
