The Libyan High Judiciary Council announced on Thursday that magistrates were not eligible to participate in the next parliamentary elections, except they resign from their posts.
The Council said in Tripoli that the decision was in conformity with the regulations in the judiciary that prevented magistrates from getting involved in acts contrary to the independence of the judiciary or to engage in politics.
It said the Libyan High Electoral Council had suspended the registration of candidates and voters for the parliamentary elections.
A total of 720 candidates have already been registered for the elections in 13 constituencies of the country.
